St. Mary’s University (SMU) steering committee for the ISO 21001 Certification Project organized a half-day orientation session for the Quality Enhancement Committee (QEC) members and heads of various university units on Saturday, March 29, 2025.
Wondwosen Tamrat (PhD) Founder and the university president, opened the session by emphasizing the top management’s support through necessary administrative decisions. He highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts from the university staff to successfully complete the certification process.
Dr. Melaku Girma, a steering committee member, explained the ISO 21001:2018 certification, its benefits, and the procedures involved. Ato Shegaw G/Medhin, the steering committee chairperson, detailed the eleven principles and seven major clauses of the ISO Educational Organization Management System (EOMS).
Participants appreciated the initiative and pledged their support, raising concerns about clarifying the project’s benefits to SMU and its staff, and ensuring the institution’s readiness to provide necessary resources. The steering committee members addressed these concerns.
